Who We Are

Formed in 1939, McMinnville Electric System (MES) has a long history of service, bringing electricity to the citizens of McMinnville, Auburntown, Sparta, and Smithville at its formation.

Today, MES serves the City of McMinnville with approximately 8,000 customers. The Board of Public Utilities is its governing entity, with members appointed by the Mayor of the City of McMinnville for four-year terms.

MES purchases electricity from the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) and is one of few distributors in TVA’s territory with generation capacity.

A top performing utility, MES employees work tirelessly to achieve high marks in safety and energy programs, evident from the numerous awards received from the TVA and the American Public Power Association.

MES takes pride in providing clean, safe, affordable, and reliable electricity to the citizens of McMinnville, Tennessee.
